Default First Revolver

I want to get a first revolver. The biggest handgun that I have shot is my Dad's SR-45. I want to stick with Ruger, and looking for something bigger than .22 but don't know how how big. This will be for target practice only.

GP100 in .357 mag. You can target practice with .38 Special loads. My first center fire handgun was a Ruger Blackhawk in .357. I got a Lee Loader kit for it, and hand loaded .38 Special target loads with Speer wadcutter bullets. It was a great gun that was versatile and got me to learn about reloading early. I could also load up full magnum loads, for fun and hunting.

The GP 100 would give you the double action option that my Blackhawk didn't have.

Are you looking for something in single action or double action? Picture Clint Eastwood...Do you like the Dirty Harry Series or the old westerns?

I will mix things up a bet then. I have a beautiful New Model Vaquero in 45 Colt. But it is also available in 357 mag. You could also shoot 38 specials with it.

Sorry, It really doesn't matter to me. Does the GP100 come in both single action and double?

Yes the GP100 is a double action, which you can also use in Single action mode as well. I also find double action revolvers to be a bit better balanced than single actions. And I find 4"-6" barrels to be the most practical.

GP100's and SP 101's are double action, unless they have a bobbed or shrouded hammer. A bobbed or shrouded hammer renders the revolver double action only.

Blackhawks are single action.

You could get a Blackhawk with a conversion cylinder and shoot .357 mag, .38 spl and 9mm in your revolver.

GP100 is DA/SA. I have one in 4" and is a very solid gun.
