I like S&W and Colts they are trim because they are machined and forged steel. The Rugers are OK I own many of them. The receivers are however quite bulky as they are made from powdered metal investment casting. They are of course less expensive. Machining steel is more expensive than casting.
Every new gun I have ever purchased has been a ruger. I won a pair of Colt Diamondbacks. I haven't shot the 38 much at all. The 22 LR I have shot it so much I actually wore out the cylinder guide rod. I have a Dan Wesson 15 -2 that is my hunting companion unless I am going into rough terrain. In rough terrain or in a boat I take my Ruger Blackhawk. The 15-2 may be retired soon. New parts are becoming hard to find for it.
