Dry firing ANY firearm is not a "best practice". With many, it will not immediately do harm, but may in the long term. Some are very quick to show their dislike of dryfire. Get a set of "snap caps". For REALLY oddball calibers, make a substitute snap cap- take a fired case, punch primer, clean primer pocket, fill pocket with silicone caulking, let cure. Snap caps are cheaper than a firing pin.
