Default Dan Wesson vs Smith and Wesson

Looking at 44 mag for the occasional moose or bear or other friendly creatures who try to murder me in Alaska. Any opinions?

If you can find a DW44 mag you will own a revolver that can handle the hottest 44mag loads that simple put will not fit in a s&w 44mag do to the longer cylinder. If you gota have a 44mag and can't find a DW ruger SRH or Taurus Ragging Bull can handle the same loads but a model 29 will work too. ..

Opinions!! If your going to hunt ether can do but I favor the DW do to owning a few and knowing that if I want a 4" barrel or 8" its a two minute swap. . If needing protection only?? A 12ga short barrel full of DUPO monolit32 an rossa 32 slugs. Thats what a small group of us packed on a fishing trip.

My DW 44 8" and a 357 4"-

Dan Wesson, hands down.

Both will work, but the Dan is going to be generally higher in quality.

It's going to be for both hunting and defense (from everything really, go open carry!). The extra barrels sound nice for changing purpose, although frankly I think 6" is a good all purpose size. I don't suppose anyone knows where to get G10 grips for a Dan Wesson? Whatever I get I'll have a few modifications for.

And it'll be shot constantly. The biggest attraction up there is the mountains, hunting and total lack of gun laws. If you want to go in the woods and just go crazy on the forestry, go ahead. That's what my sponsor said anyways. 2 years up there and I should be a pro with it.

a Dan Wesson revolver is a fine pistol. finding one is not going to be as easy as getting a Smith and Wesson, beings they have been out of production for many years now. my father has a DW 15-2 357 Magnum he bought new in about 1980 or 81. has the 8.5" barrel and is one sweet shooting pistol.

i think that if you find one at a price that is comfortable to you, you'll have a pistol that will serve you quite well for a lifetime. but the availibilty of the Smith will be easier to find.

I found 2 for under $800. The 29 model used ran $800 for a used easy.

I have to agree with the DW.

Uh, you're going to give them a .44 Magnum?

Ya'll know me, I'd pick a Ruger Blackhawk, 4 5/8" barrel, in .45 Colt, loaded with some 300~350 grain cast bullets!

Sort of like this:

I have a DW744, which now has a light 6” barrel. It weighs 56 oz, which is a bit much, IMO, for a carry .44. It is the most accurate .44 I have, and for hunting with a .44, I would probably take it, but for a carry gun, I would be more likely to choose my 629 Mountain Gun, which weighs 40 oz.
