Convert 10 to a 36
I'd really like a 36, but I don't have the cash to get one. I was wondering what it might cost to have the barrel on a 10 shortened to the lug and a new front blade welded on. Would it be cheaper than waiting to find a used 36? I'm thinking that might be the way to go since not only will I save the money, but I'll have a six shot instead of a 5er.

I would just have a gunsmith rebarrel your Model 10 with a shorter 2 1/2" barrel. With the work it would require to shorten, crown, reinstall sights refinish yours the cost would not be conducive anyway in my opinion. A new 2 1/2" barrel and instalation would be less. The bottom line is your Model 10 is a K Frame revolver and the Model 36 is a J Frame which is much smaller and rounded but. So you would not have the equivelant of a Model 36 J Frame anyway. You would simply have a snubnose K Frame revolver. A trade might be worth consideration also. Or sell your Model 10 out right? That is my thoughts on it!:)

There are a half dozen Mdl 36 revolvers over on Gunbroker for $400 or less. By the time you buy a 10, swap out barrel, you would be ahead just to buy a 36.

At a gun show, I was able to purchase a S&W Mdl 12 for $325.
