Colt Python
My lgs has a 4 1/2 blued python for 1700 $ ........ is it worth that much????

You might want to check out Gunbroker. A lot of them are bringing ridiculous prices even on there far exceeding the $1700 you mentioned. But there are some nice Pythons listed there for around $1300. For me the $1700 is a little much for a Python. They are fine guns and of high quality and are not made anymore. But other than that as far as feel and accuracy there are other pistols like the older S&Ws that to me feel better and shoot just as well for less money. I have a S&W Model 27 5" 357 Mag. N Frame that is pretty rare and I gave $1100 for it in pristine condition and in the presentation box. But it all boils down to what the Python is worth to you and your fondness of that particular weapon. They are fine pistols I use to own two of them. But back to the point, you can probably get a real nice one for around $1300 or less if you shop around.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the quick answer but I should re-word my statement .... is a python worth a divorce?! Hahaha

In my opinion the aint worth near that much. Once the collectors started collecting them the prices went up. I'd just as soon have a good Ruger.

Short answer . . NO!

However, if you're already headed down that road, then . . YES!

Condition? Condition is everything. If it is a stunning example of the species, maybe. Blued 4" Pythons in decent condition are fairly common. Blued 4" Pythons in "Like New In Box" condition are less so.
What year? Certain periods can less/or more desirable.
Original grips? Correct Python grips are no longer cheap if one is lacking them.
Original box and papers? Preferred and it helps value.
And so forth.
In direct answer to your question: Probably not.

I'm not headed down that road ...... have been before but turned around because of fear ... and money. I can't swing 1700 $

I saw the same gun at Bill Goodmans Gun Show over the weekend. New in the box, wanted $2500. I kinda giggled and moved on.

Haha now there's a 2.5 inch in royal blue for 2700 .... description says like new with original wood grips

I would say certainly not. I've bought several 4" blued Pythons and never paid more than $1500 for one. If the gun has the original box then that's another story.

I see all kinds of like new 4" Pythons at local shows for $1400.
