I work with a lucky guy,a old man that lived next door to him gave him a brand new Python in the box the man bought back in the late 80s and never fired it,so the old man got rid of everything in his house,he's dying from cancer and refuses to leave anything to his daughter,he's given away WW2 era Lugers and Walther P-38s that were sidearms of SS officers.

It is too bad his relationship with his daughter is that bad. That makes me sad for both of them. Your friend should fondly remember the neighbor and use it as a reminder to keep good relationships with kin.

She stole a large sum of money from him so he's banned her forever she's been locked up for distribution of meth.

Understandable. I basically wrote my sister off for less, but something more agregious in my book. Sometimes, family just write themselves out of your life.
