Colt Python 357
Hi, I have a nice example of the Python from the 70's, had it locked in a box for about 6 months, the cylinder lock button [don't know if that's the proper name] is jammed and won't lock the cylinder, any ideas on how to free this up, many thanks, Jimmy.

Take it to a gunsmith and let him work on it. You might have a very valuable handgun there, depending on the condition. Working on a revolver is not for the faint of heart or someone who lacks much experience.
Please let us know how it works out!

Some people claim the timing gets off pretty easy too. I don't have one so wouldn't know, but what I do know is this- if it's an old gun and you already know it has problems just go ahead and take it to a good smith. It's good insurance, you don't want to trash it for some other unforeseen malfunction.

Jimmy- welcome o the forum- when you get a minute, stop by the intro thread and say howdy.
Not to be a wiseass- but you DID remember that the cylinder release on a Colt works by pulling and not (like a S&W) by pushing on it?

I'm a little confused with your OP, is the cylinder locked in, or out?

Call them (It's on their dime! ) and be polite and ask them what your options are with this 40 year old gun you love so much.
Explain exactly whats wrong and tell them you do not want to do any damage by trying something on your own.
Have the S/N handy and let them tell you what to do.
Colt is a great company and will insure the proper service is done. Colt is the only "Gunsmith" I would trust to do service on my Python.
