Hi, I'm hoping someone could help me out in my search to find the date of manufacture and other information for a Detective Special I just picked up. SERIAL NUMBER: H43122 From what I found online from proofhouse.com it was made in 1975, but based on the condition I don't think its that old. Normally the grips would be an indicator as to the generation but it has aftermarket pachmayr rubber grips. It has the shrouded cylinder release spring so I know its 3rd or 4th generation. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Checked two places both said same thing as you found out, made in 1975, I have one also, made in 74, still looks almost new. Shoots great, super carry gun.

Thanks, I was fortunate enough to contact the original owner through the person I bought it from. He recalls buying it new in '75 so our internet search is accurate. He changed the grip to the one currently on the gun. I took it to the range today and it shot great. I'm very happy to be the third owner of such a classic revolver.
