Hi gasman and welcome to the forum Your Colt Detective special serial no. 58001 was made in 1912. Pics would help in determining the value of your Colt. Best regards

100%-$1400
98%-$1200
95%-$900
90%-$795

Add 20% if the gun has a square butt frame. Must be verified by factory letter if early production.

Not possible. Detective Specials didn't even start being produced until 1927.

Must be an error. Blue Book confirms the production date of 1927. Several websites confirm it also.

Disregard my earlier post regarding value. The prices I posted were for the very early models. It appears that you have a much more recent version, commonly referred to as the 3rd Gen. I would say your gun is worth about $450-$500 range.

Olympus is right. I have a DS made in the 1980's, 1984 I think and I paid $450.00 used for it.
