I have been looking for a DA 22LR revolver for some time. I looked at the S&W and it was nice, but a bit too pricy for a 22LR. The Taurus was reasonably priced, but the DA trigger pull required 3 men and some hydrolics.

Yes...I know I can buy a Ruger semi-auto or a Buckmark (both are great 22LR gusn), but that is not what I am looking for. I like my revolvers and want to find a fun one to shoot when I am not shooting my GP100 .357.

I saw an add for Charter, but know nothing about them. What kind of quality are their revolvers? They seem to have some DA 22LR revolver options as well.

Charter Arms has a reputation for hit or miss QC. Depending on which era it was made in it may be a fine firearm. The original owner died and his son took over and QC allegedly went out the window along with customer service.

IMHO one of the finest .22 revolvers ever made is the Ruger Single Six, but it is a single action. For a D/A .22 revolver with a decent trigger, you may have to look at a Smith and Wesson, but they can get a bit pricey.

I tried the cheaper route for a DA .22 revolver and tried to like a Taurus - didn't work out. As Robo said, Charters have hit or miss quality - the newer it is the better the chance to get a "miss".

I have a S&W 617 and it's a fantastic .22 revolver but yes, it's pricey. Probably the best value in a DA .22 revolver is an older Monson-made Dan Wesson. I've owned a couple of them and they rank right up there with S&W, Colt, and Ruger for quality...

I'd just keep your eye out for a used S&W or Dan Wesson, but I understand wanting to practice your DA pull with out all the cost. I guess if you did buy a Charter you wouldn't have much to lose?

The newest charters seem to be of a lot better quality. They've came back from what I can tell. They'll still never be a match for S&W however.

i was in your boat about a month ago and asked the same questions as you. I really wanted the smith 22 revolver, but thought it was a bit pricy especially since I already own a couple of other 22's. I was looking for a companion for my S&W airweight to shoot with......sigh.......but I just couldn't go through with the Charter not having good reviews and Taurases are out after being burnt by one already.....sigh...... Sorry I can't be any help, but if per chance you do get the charter, give us a range report.

I was in search of a DA .22 revolver a month ago,and after having a terrible Taurus DA revolver,and feeling the S&W airweight revolver,I decided to look at the Ruger single six revolver.I was dead set on a DA .22,but I now reilize that there are no good DA revolvers as well made as the Ruger SA single six.I am not a SA guy,but I love my new Ruger and it shoots so much better than the Taurus did.And it was only $410 brand new.

I assume you mean for the same price, as I wouldn't trade my S&W 617 for a pair of Single Sixes...

This may be a case where "you can't always get what you want" to quote the Rolling Stones.

I am a big fan of Ruger. My GP100 is a tank and if I had one gun to bet my life on the GP100 would be it. Never owned a S&W, but I know they have a strong following as well when it comes to revolvers. I may have to go the path of a SA instead of a DA.

Yeah,for the price.I tried to get my hands on a 617,but my local dealer said that S&W was out of stock and they couln't be ordered for awhile or something along those lines,and he also said that they retailed for about $900.

That's what I reilized.For the price of a cheap DA .22 you can buy the very best of SA .22s.But I did get a nice extra with the single six-it comes with a .22 magnum cylinder also,so you get 2 guns in one.
