Charter Arms bulldog Pug .44 special

Thinking of picking up this badboy. Any reason not to? I've been reading mixed reviews so it's hard to come to a final decision. Any help would be appreciated. It would be used mostly as a gun I'd throw in the car or as a carry when I get my permit. Thanks.

I would own one myself if David Berkowitz hadn't soiled the name of a good revolver.

I did some reading up on them a while back and they are from what I gathered a pretty good gun. I have never owned one and dont know any one who does. But for a concealed carry a 44 special would my choice over a 38.The price is very reasonable and they interest me. I have considered getting one myself.

As long as you're not planning on using it as a multi-thousand-rd. range gun, the recent production ones are quite nice. Mine has a couple of surface imperfections... but I'm a huge fan of .44 Special and the size-weight-price of the Bulldog add up to a very good buy IMHO. I always feel very confident when I carry it. Here's mine (w/custom grip) next to my Ruger SP101 .357... They're nearly exactly the same size so SP101 holsters work fine:

Heres mine 1980s model 44 special, with new grip just under 23 ozs.

I had a few and loved them. Blue Bulldog. Blue BD Pug and a Stainless BD Pug. The Stainless one had problems with the barrel shroud coming off during recoil, but a liberal coat of permanent locktite fixed that.

Best shooter of the 3 was the Blued Pug. Wish I still had it.

my friend has one and also carries it, the one problem is ammo is not always readily available in this area.that might be something to look into befor you commit to buying one.

I have 2, both blued and stainless. They are the new (post-2007) models and I think they are excellent carry guns. Lightweight and compact, and carry a serious defense cartridge. I am also a big fan of .44 Special and own several, but these get carried often.

I bought one in the black finish about 3 yrs ago, & I carry it every day, its reliable accurate & most of all easy to conceal, In warm or cold weather in a belt holster or a shoulder rig, I carry it in my Smartcarry holster when wearing either sweat, or shorts during the hot weather, & it hides great also, I love this gun for my SD gun.? Charter Arms has re done its Company & its guns are entirely made in their Conn. plant, NICE.? :D
