Buffalo Bore Option
I own a SP101 with 2.25" barrel. Sometimes I wish I got the 3" barrel when it comes to shooting .357mag rounds. To that end I recently discovered Buffalo Bore Ammo. They make a .38+P 158gr. Outdoorsman load that they claim could be a solution for both two legged and four legged animals.

For those of you who know more about the Buffalo Bore ammunition then I can you tell me the power of this .38+P Outdoorsman load? Is it between a .38 and .357 mag round?

4 legged animals. You really do not want a SWC Hard Cast bullet for 2 legged protection. It only bores a hole thru. NO EXPANTION. Your not hunting right?? Buy a barnes HP short barrel load. BB corbon and several others load it. Good for dogs, people and other critters but for bear buy some bear spray and use it first. For deer you better be close enough for a safe controled head shot. You bought a good defence ,trail gun way more for 2 legged pest. Remember the bear spray. Good for most thangs feeling wild and crazy. Way to much of BB is hype. They do have good some ammo but not really much better than what is out there all ready for any real kind of defence outside of the big bores. Even a soft lead 158gr bullet at 900 fps would be more affective for trail defence than that BB load. I do have years of experience with a 357 hunting and useing hard cast ammo on hogs. Terrible deer and basic protection load.

No....not hunting with a small revolver....that's what my rifles are for. ;-)

I know a true trail gun for bear would be a 44 mag. The only bears we have by us are black bear, wolves and the very rare cougar ( not the old female kind either). Since I don't own a 44 mag. I figured if I was camping and all I had was the SP101 then I could load it with .357 or a hot .38+p.
