Just brought my brand new 637 to the range. Loaded it up with 5 rds of 95gr cowboy loads and after finishing those the crane bent. What's up with that. Very disappointed in Smith right about now. Left it with the smith at the place I bought it.

Well got the gun back from the gunsmith. He was not very talkative about what happen and why. He just said that the yoke/crane was apparently out of alignment from the factory and the 5 rd I out thru it made it worse.
To the point the cylinder would not close. He realigned it and I shot 50 rds without a problem. Still a little disappointed with Smith And Wesson. Probably won't be buying anymore of their products in the future.
I will be sending them a e-mail describing what happen too.

so was it fixed to your satisfaction? if so, why disappointed? now if not, then i see where you have reasons for being upset or disappointed.

Seems to be working ok now. But I will always have it in the back of my mind will it happen again maybe at the time I need it most.

then you need to get rid of it and get something else. you have lost faith in it, so it's time for it to go. i am thinking it was bought for SD/HD use? if so, then sell it and buy something else. you need peice of mind and you don't have that with this pistol now.

Should have sent it back to Smith. They would have fixed it without a word and it would have cost you nothing. Must have been off pretty good to do what you're saying. You didn't see it when you bought it?

I think this is time to make a point. I have seen several posts in this forum and others claiming that a S&W J frame is just as sturdy as a Ruger GP-100, Ruger Blackhawk or Super Blawkhawk. The J frame is not as sturdy as any of the Ruger models I mentioned. The J frame is much lighter so it can be carried fairly easily. I would have to see the results of a stress test to believe the J frame is as sturdy as a Ruger SP-101.

Just because it was new, did not mean it had not been fingered to death by idiots. The crane can be bent by "Hollywood" tactics of flipping the cylinder open and closed. If some nimrod "played" with it before you bought it, that could have happened.

S&W would be very unlikely to let something like that get out of the factory. Not impossible, just unlikely. I have found S&W's customer service to be THE BEST in the industry, period.
