I went to the gun shop today and had them put the Security Six back in stock. It's just been eating at me that I really need a .44 mag. They had a used blue Super Blackhawk for a hundred bucks less that the Six. The backstrap and trigger guard show wear, but the rest of it is very good. It's got Hogue grips on it and they're fugly, but they feel really good in hand. The trigger is incredibly smooth with a great break. It was either worked on or is so nicely broken in that it's excellent. Then while I was wandering around the shop I found a perfect bandoleer holster for it.

I also picked up an as new stainless CZ83 with two mags, the case and all the box candy for my new carry pistol. Now I just have to find a decent holster for it. I'll probably go with a Milt Sparks Summer Special like I had for the Pro Carry.

So, how did I do this? I sold the Kimber Pro Carry II this morning. I love 1911's, but the money I got selling it all but paid for both new handguns. I love the .45ACP round and I realize that going down to .380ACP is kind of weird, but in my warped mind it's working for me.

I got a delay on my background check, but I figure it's because my license and address are brand new.

So, I'll post pics when I bring them home.

I definitely need a gun that will discourage a bear and as much as I love .357's, I didn't feel that it would be enough gun if it came down to it.

As far as stuff happening, it's a new home, new state and a new beginning for us. So I guess it actually is a lot of stuff going on. Of course, come Spring that's when the outside work, brush clearing, tree cutting and log splitting will start.

I recently bought a used new model super blackhawk. I like it a lot. Mine has a nice trigger too. Boy they can handle some really hot loads too. I shot a few 300 grain rounds out of mine. That is an experience.

Seems like a reasonable investment to me. If you tire of them, you can probably recover most of your money or value by selling/trading.

What barrel length is the Blackhawk?

Remember, bears make excellent test subjects/backstops.

CA357 you did well the SBH is a very fine back country handgun. You can load some light grouse and rabbit loads with the .44 Russian Ctg. The .44 Special loads are great for accurate mid power and target loads. The .44 Mag can be great with the standard 240 gr. Kieth Semi Wad Cuttter. for general holster use. For some real big game loads the 300 gr. bullets are very good. The .44 Mag case loaded with #9 shot can harvest grouse and snow shoe hares. The .44 Mag. needs to roll in the hand I would look for a set of nice smooth grips. Check out some heavy duty outdoor belt and holster rigs. Good Luck

Stalker, I had a couple of OM Blackhawks and Vaquero's. The Vaq's were .44mag. The spade grips and the rolling recoil action took some getting used to because I'm usually a semi auto or double action guy. I'm going to see how it shoots and feels with the Hogues before I look into changing out the grips. The are ugly, but I'm too old to let vanity rule any more. If they work, fine, I'll keep 'em. If not, I'll find some others that will.
