Best .44 mag deal.
I'm trying to figure out the best reliable .44 to get as cheaply as possible. I was almost sold on Taurus until I researched, I don't want something that will fall apart at an inopportune moment, but I don't have $800 laying around in the gun budget. Any reccomendations?

Find a good used .44. Peruse the guns shows, shops that deal in used guns and pawn shops. You can occasionally find a decent deal at pawn shops. You have to know what something is worth and understand the pawn shops have an incredible mark up. All prices are negotiable. I once found a Smith M-58 (.41 mag) made in 1964 (first year of manufacture) for $165 in a pawn shop that had no idea what a jewel they had.

Yup, dont go with the taurus for the hand cannon (timing isnt the greatest to start with, frame size, quality of metal). You wont go wrong if you buy used (with some research on what to look for when inspecting a used rosco). A lot of used 44s are shot a little then sold. You can get a Ruger Redhawk in stainless for under 500 and a bargain at that. They are bombproof, an overbuilt hand cannon that shoots like a house afire. Wouldnt go under 5.5 in bbl length, pretty punishing with 240 or 300 gr mags in the shorter bbls.
Good luck with the hunt!

Get yourself a Ruger Super Blackhawk... it's rugged, reliable, and affordable. I Boar hunt every year using a Super Blackhawk Bisley 44 Magnum with 7 1/2" barrel. I can drop a 300 pound pig at 75 yards with one shot.

This pistol will reach out and hit your target like a run-away Mac Truck. The bullets shown are 300 grain Hornady XTP, powered with 24.5 grains of H110 powder and CCI Magnum 350 Primers.
