Default Any S&W 500 fans here?

Hard to find any 500 enthusiasts. Seems like most want to discredit and insult those who own one. I bought one for kicks, had a real hard time with it at first, but eventually got used to it and it's probably the most fun weapon I own. Accurate as heck too (as handguns go) and for a long range.

What I'd really like is a nice lightweight nylon holster that drapes it over lower left torso for carry. It's big and cumbersome but a nicely designed holster would make it really manageable.

I bought a few boxes of ammo and a bunch of brass and bullets, and now I handload for it exclusively. I'm using the 275 gr all-copper HP's and the 500 gr JSP's.

Love the gun but think I would go with the 460 XVR Hunter!

Sorry Mike, I'm going with the blond salesperson!

I'm a S&W 500 fan.

What's not to like about a large, high quality, American made hunk of steel that fires a cartridge the size of a man's thumb? Sure it's a bit overkill for anything we'd use it for, but if its fun to shoot, who cares! However, I would also have to go with the 460 XVR. . . just more (and cheaper) ammo possibilities.

I personally dont feel the need to go any higher then a .44 mag but thats just me. Ive shot the 500s and they are fun as hell but .44 ammo is the most expensive caliber i feel like shooting on a regular basis, and i reload!

I too like 500's. I don't own one, which is strange for me as I usually buy what I like. I own seven 44 Magnums three of which are S&W's. You gotta love those S&W hand cannons!

Not know if I am a fan (yet), but shooting .44 Mag is by now so common, that I'm ready to step it up a notch and try a .500S&W.
Problem is you can't get that type of ammo in my parts of the woods,....

Gee thanks Mark. . . Not like I haven't already been drooling over a 629-1 for the last month. Oh lord, tomorrow's pay day.

I would consider a Smith 500 IF I could get a Marlin 1895 to match. THAT would be awesome!!

When they first came out I fell in love with a 4" with very low mileage. Bought it used from a guy who fired 2 shots and called it quits. It became one of my favorite handguns for a while but then it went back in the safe and stayed there for a couple of years. I was cleaning up about 6 months ago and I found it, decided that I didn't need it and sold it on GB for a little over what I paid for it. It went to a great guy in Alaska where the gun actually makes sense.

I have a bunch of .44 mags:
S&W 629 Mountain Gun
S&W 29-3
LAR Grizzly
Colt Anaconda
Old 3 screw Ruger SA

and between those 5 they'll do anything I need a big bore to do.

It’s not is if I need one, but I like them. I have three: a 6 ½” PC Hunter I gave myself as a retirement present, a 4” normal one and a 5” John Ross Special. My favorite is the 5” JRS. It doesn’t have any porting. Porting may reduce handgun rotation during recoil, but it sure makes them loud.

Ammo is expensive enough to make reloading really important for most of us. I don’t spend much time shooting full power loads, but for range work, I shoot significantly reduced loads. Doing that is a lot of fun, and you don’t beat yourself up too much. I have also discovered that standard, half finger bicycling gloves make great shooting gloves for heavy loads.

I mounted a 2x Weaver scope in Warne QD mounts on the PC Hunter. This way I can use the scope or quickly pop it off and use the iron sights. All are seriously accurate.
