Default Any other fans of the .44 special?

I was wondering if I was alone on the island of the .44 special, or if there are others out there.

Yes it's a large round, and it has considerable recoil, but I am a big guy with large hands so i don't find it uncontrolable.
Its not my everyday carry, but I do carry it from time to time.

Mine is a Smith and Wesson 396 Mountain Lite. Lightweight frame(18oz), 3" barrel, 5 shot, green hi viz front sight and hogue bantam grips.

So I've shown ya mine, show me yours!

You are not alone. It is an ideal large bore personal defense weapon. A Taurus 431 was my prime piece for over 20 years, and I have had a slew of Single Actions, too. Easy to get accuracy, and easy recoil too if you want that. All of my 44 Magnums see more specials than magnums.

I just traded for an early Charter Arms .44 Special Bulldog target model. I plan on using it for carry.

I was just wondering, as I don't see many of them in my region of the world. 38 and 357 has the majority of the revolver world here, and I would imagine thats true of most places. I like the 44 special and even though it doesn't have a great following, think its an overlooked weapon for defense.
I have my semi autos too, but seem to fall back to this pistol. It can be limited on ammo, but I have never had a problem, unlike 380 ammo of late. I was just able to get 380 auto target rounds here last week, and that was the first I have seen of that since Jan. Well at least that wasn't $50 a box anyway!

CA, glad to hear of your new aquisition, hope you enjoy!

Stay safe,

Chris

Other then My Colt python the only other Revolver I Owen is the Mountain Lite 3”. Got it from my father not to long ago along with coffee table that it mounts under, took me a long time to talk him out of it, I think it was the last pistol he bought (He was 80 so I got the drop on him).Great revolver.

This is my version 44 SPECIAL. It's a Smith & Wesson 329PD. While it's really chambered for the 44 Magnum I have found it to be an excellent 44 Special, because of its excessively light weight frame. Even with 500 Magnum grips, this revolver has a brutal recoil when shooting Magnum ammo. However, its the perfect 44 Special!

This is a very comfortable "big bore" carry revolver...
