Overkill,

Yes, my plan is to buy 2 revolvers with the 2 permits I am requesting.

Than, in about 6 months or so, I will get 2 more permits and buy 2 semi autos....
probably the Beretta PX4 Storm or CZ 85. I am a lefty so I would like these
models with the ambidextrous controls.

For the .22 revolver, I would be willing to buy used to keep within a budget,
as long as its in mint-to excellent condition. I like the S&W Model 617 a lot.

For the .38(maybe .357 chambered)I would like to buy NEW and im looking
at the S&W Model 67, 15, or maybe the 686. Also, maybe the Ruger GP100.

^^^ Re upcoming CZ85: I have a CZ75b that i picked up for about $400 used; it is a great pistol. It's a target shooter for me, so the weight helps with recoil. It has never, ever failed to fire or jammed up in any way while i've owned it. Good choice!

My hearing is long since screwed by a combination of old age and too many years of a lot of shooting before we knew that muzzle blast is forever. That and the adrenalin-fueled auditory shutdown make me worry less about the noise than about the godawful flash from the only two .357 Magnums I've owned over the years. In a darkened room or outdoors on a very dark night, I suspected that if (a) I had more than one assailant, and/or (b) my first shot wasn't spot on, my elderly eyes might be too blinded temporarily to conitinue effective defense. Just a thought.

I'm no expert, and thanks be to the Great Spirit, have never been forced to fire a gun to save myself or someone else. It's been close a couple of times, but never reached that point. But Whispering, I think you'll find that most of us on these forums, including LEO's, hope to hell we won't have to shoot anyone. The people I know who have all say they were permanently changed by it, and not for the better.

I think this thread may be at the expiration date.
