I wouldn't count on either of those calibers for SD.

The best use of the .22, IMO, is as a training gun to improve performance with the .38/.357. Two similar guns, one used primarily for training and perfecting the double action trigger stroke. The second to be used in conjunction with the first for training and self defense.

I agree. The LCR combo in .22 and .38 or .357 is an obvious choice. You also have the S&W 686 and 617, or 3" M60 and 3" M63.
