I would like to purchase a 45LC and would like to know what the best maker is to go with? Any advice or comparisons would be appreciated.

I like the Smith's. I would go with a 25-5 or Mountain gun (forget the model)

You can't go wrong with a Ruger Vaquero.Strong , reliable and not real expensive.

I would go with ruger blackhawk without hesitation. The blackhawk has adjustable sight vs vaquero's fixed sight. The only reason to go with vaquero is if you are bitten by cowboy shooting.

Agree with all the above - Mine is a Colt SAA in 45LC. I sent it back to the Colt Custom Shop several years back and had a 45 ACP cylinder fitted to the gun so I could have both options. There are a lot of great guns out there depending on what you want and what your budget is.

Ruger has just come out with a John Wayne commemorative - limited edition engraved. Destined to be a true classic

The LC is a great all around cartridge. I shoot it in black powder from time to time - talk about a hoot; its better than New Years and the 4th of July all rolled into one.

I've shot both the Ruger Vaquero and Blackhawk. Bot are nice, but I'd get the Blackhawk personally.

I personally think that the Rugers are the best for the money guns on the market, and would go with the Black Hawk. My Black Hawks are all old 3 screw models but have shot and worked on some of the New Models and other than the triggers are good to go, I`m very picky about my triggers and you`ll probibly not know how hard they pull if your just getting started in handgun. If you do`nt like the trigger pull it is very easy to lighten them.

DefaultMy 2 cents...

Just joined...so I'm just catching up with these old threads..

I vote for the Colt SAA in 45lc...My favorite firearm by far..4 3/4" Blued Barrel with a Case Colored Frame

I also own a Ruger Bisley Vaquero ( Old Frame ) in .357 magnum

And a Ruger Blackhawk in .44magnum

And Smith & Wesson Model(s)

M629...44magnum

M19...357magnum

M13...357magnum

SA = COLT or RUGER

DA = S&W

Here's some pics of the COLT and RUGER
