454 vs 44mag

Sorry for the silly question i am just curious. What is the difference in recoil? I have shot the buffalo bill loads out a ruger, but i have never shot the 454.

Only way to explain whats felt is to say the 454 has a bit more felt recoil than a 44mag out of the same size/weight handgun-
Not a BIG difference to me but its there-
Bear in mind i'm strange= I LIKE recoil :D

I understand the recoil hoss. When i go shooting with my 30-06 and then switch to a little 22. I have to make sure gun fired after i pulled the trigger :p

If you have ever shot the buffalo bores 44 mag 340gr +p+ loads it is very close to the same feel as a like bullet weight 454 but when you compar the 454 to a run of the mill 240gr to 300 gr 44 mag its more like what you would feel with a 38sp and in a smaller 6 shot revoler to a 357mag load when bullet weight is the same. I would not want to shoot a stead diet of 454 or 44+p+ ammo. My buddies have a 44mag and 454 both in ruger srh. I have a dw 44 amd had the BB +p+ ammo. It is shot up and will not be replaced as ther are no grizzlies here. My current load is a 240gr sp at 1480 fps. Not bad to shoot. I would not turn down a deal on a 454 but would load at 45+p levels.

I have both the .44 Mag. and the .454 Casull in the Ruger Super Redhawk. With high performance loads the .454 has substantially much harder recoil. I'm talking heavy bullets with maximum powder charges, like what's avaliable from Buffalo Bore and Cor-Bon.

The original Triplex loads that were developed by Dick Casull back in the early 70's were unbelievable when compared to today's high performance loads. They were also very dangerous. Dick Casull blew up many .45 caliber revolvers back in the day, striving for that extra bit of performance out of his guns. Today, with guns like the Ruger Super Redhawk, and customs from Hamilton Bowen, along with the high grade Freedom Arms guns built in this caliber, strength is much higher than on the .45 caliber conversions Casull was using when developing these loads.

I have found both to have quite the kick but I think it would be easiest to describe as if a .38 Special was a .44 Magnum a .357 Magnum would be the .454 Casull.

billt That why I said when like weight bullets are used like with a BB 44mag +P+340gr at 1478fps and 1649 ftlbs compared to the 454-325gr at 1525fps and 1678 ftlbs There is not enough felt recoil difference to know what you just shot. The difference shows when truely heavy and hot 44 mag loads are shot not the milder 44mags ammo .

Even with BB ammo theres is warmer than standard and there HOT. And still 454 can get even faster .

Now DT has a 454 335gr at 1600fps and 1900ftlbs and a 400 gr load at 1400fps and 1750 ftlbs . WOW
