.44 s&w model 29 cylinder
My cylinder is getting jammed up and not wanting to release. I have removed the thumb piece cleaned and oiled very little, but it still is not wanting to release the cylinder. Any suggestions, ideas, or solutions? Thanks in advance.

Loaded chamber or unloaded?

Check to see if the ejector rod has unscrewed any. If it does, it gets longer.

There's a small spring in the hammer that needs to be set. Also, check the cylinder stop rebound spring.

Carefully take off the side plate and check for gunk.

How long since the revolvers been dismantled and cleaned inside the frame? Everything needs maintenance.

I thought I had the ejector tight, but after getting the cylinder released I found that it was not. Problem solved. Thinks everybody. Ps here is a pic of it with the new grips

Very nice.

Glad it was simple.

Another thing to check is - once one gets the revolver open - under the extractor star; if burnt (or unburnt) powder particles - or just blowing sand - get stuck under the star, the cylinder wedges pretty tightly.

If you find that the ejector rod is coming loose (they have reverse threads IIRC), be careful with the loctite.

Just say NO to the locktite. Remove the cylinder, screw the ejector rod in (left handed threads on post WWII versions), put two dummy rounds in the charging holes (to prevent damage to the "star") lock the ejector rod in a smooth faced vise and tighten. It should never give you trouble again.
