.44 Mag for Concealed Carry? I own a S&W 629 3". Bought it because I fish in Black Bear country. Would NEVER consider it as a CCW gun for 2 reasons.
1. To damn big n heavy, but I'm only 70" and 185 lbs
2. The bigger reason is the liability of OVER PENETRATION. The purpose of a CCW weapon is to defend yourself from violent attack, IN PUBLIC. I don't want and well aimed round exiting the bad guy and hitting an innocent bystander beyond my target.

I carry mine with 200 grain Special loads for self-defense. I wanted a 45 ACP revolver with a 3" barrel, but I hate moon clips; so, the 44 Special is a natural choice. I also like the heavier frame and capability of 44 mag for fun and a hunting BUG.

My 44 belt gun
I have a Taurus Tracker 4 inch 44. Very conselable, very good carry gun just a little smaller than the S&W "L" Frame revolver. After some heavey 240 and 265 gr. loads and couple thousand mid range fractory loads it still shoots good and is very reliable, and accurate as long as I do my part. It is ported so it is loud and hard on the ears. For the country setting the .44 Mag makes sense for CCW, but for urban settings it is just too powerful and too much penatration.

I used a 4" M29 for 8 years. It packed well & was loaded with a 250 Keith & 20 grains of 2400. It was great for where I lived & were I went but that load would shoot through a hog end to end so it's a little much for bad guys in a crowd.

Carry what ever works for you. I like the 4" 29 myself. I have never had it get away from me on the second shot, never been blinded by the muzzle flash Never had my wrist snapped or broken. In a good rig they hide OK.

Man, that came out of left field. I sat there for 5 minutes trying to figure out what you were talking about, then I remembered my signature.
