1 - This thread has absolutely nothing to do with the platform from which the calibers are fired. This thread is PURELY about how the .357 Magnum compares to other calibers ballistically. If you want to troll about how terrible revolvers are, please go to the below thread. It has been discussed ad nauseum, but I don't mind if you re-open it with your same old argument which doesn't make sense:

http://www.firearmstalk.com/forums/f17/arguments-against-not-carrying-revolver-94908/

2 - Have you ever heard of the Coonan? It is a 1911 (semi-auto) format which fires the .357 Magnum.

3 - Stop trolling.

"What is that 175gr 10mm load supposed to be, special?? I showed what both are capable of with a better class of production ammo from the same company. You are the one doing the apples to broccoli thing."

The Underwood site you quoted shows the 180gr. at 1300, that doesn't vary much from the Silvertips at 1290. Since I have 2 and one is a Delta Elite I'm not gonna buy a different load for the G20, I've been an ammo hoarder since before some of the members here were born and have learned to standardize when possible. I've had people bring up cannons as the ideal defensive weapons
IRL and let them try my old 4" 29 loaded with those anemic Silvertips, they didn't do all that well. My carry isn't any of them actually, it's either a Browning H.P. in 9 or a G27 and if I'm unarmed a .32 Guardian. If you can lug a heavy duty .357 loaded with howitzer ammo and shoot it fast and straight that's great, most can't.

P.S. I love my old weak ass K frame Mod. 19-4 and hopefully will never be dumb enough to let this one go.

One thing not considered by many when comparing muzzle velocity and muzzle energy is projectile configuration. You have many more choices in the revolver round than you do in the auto-loader round due to feed issues. I loved the 158 grain lead semi-wadcutter hollow point in my Model 19-2, and in spite of reports to the contrary, I never cracked a forcing cone in spite of tens of thousands of rounds through it. I did have to send it back to S&W every year or so for new springs and a check-up, but that was it. Damn, I miss that gun.

I did not mean to sound harsh. Many a Model 19 rode in a police holster. TX DPS is one of those typically rigid governmental entities that does not like indiviuality. For many years one of the requirements was height. 5'10 or something minimum. Of course that excluded most women so that got changed. We have a trooper near here who is MAYBE 5'00". She looks down right silly next to a bunch of strapping 6'+ troopers.

" Damn, I miss that gun."

Two years ago a guy arranged to meet me after work and produced a finish worn but solid 19 with a lefty duty holster. One of my co workers told me it had been his and before that his uncle. He "had" to have 200 bucks for it...OK!

Yeah I paid close to 400 for mine and the rear sight was broke. It was from a local gun dealer ex police and slightly senial (I'm certain I spelled that wrong). But at times he offered pretty good deals as long as his money hungry wife didn't get involved. I remember seeing a 10ga super long browning lever action shotgun in there and every time I came back it was another 500 added to it lol. I dunno what the deal was there but it started out at 500 and the last time I went it was 2500. Not relavant but thought I would share
