Default .357/.38 Spcl.

Looking for a good .357. So far I like the S&W model 19. What .357 do you recommend?

I would be feeding a lot of .38 through it.

Haven't shot a mdl 19. But I love my Ruger sp101.

The GP100 looks REALLY nice. Plus I can get that in a blued finish and that's really the big deal for me between the sp101 and the GP100.

You can't go wrong with either one.

You got it!

For a collector, I'd keep my search limited to the dash 4 and lower. Also look for one with Target Grips (TG), Target Trigger (TT), Target Hammer (TH) and Target Sights (TS).

  • 19..................(1957) Stamping of model number
  • 19-1...............(1959) Change extractor rod, right to left hand thread
  • 19-2...............(1961) Delete trigger guard screw, change cylinder stop
  • 19-3...............(1967) Relocate rear sight leaf screw
  • 19-4 (66-1)......(1977) Move gas ring from yoke to cylinder
  • 19-5 (66-2)......(1982) Eliminate cylinder counterbore and pinned barrel (No more P&R)
  • 19-6...............(1988) New yoke screw, floating hand, and hammer nose bushing
  • 19-7 (66-4)......(1994) New rear leaf sight, drill and tap frame, change extractor, and Uncle Mike’s synthetic grips.
  • 19-8 (66-5).....(1998) Sep – Change to MIM hammer and floating firing pin

If you are looking for a shooter the above are nice but you will be happy with any mod 19.

Get her dirty, then clean her so she starts to respect you. When her trust is complete, she will serve you well for a lifetime!

Cane, you have all the cool toys. May I ask where you got that plate to help you load your speed loaders?
