I was considering picking up a 327 FM but, when I look it up on the various revolver manufacturers' websites it appears the cartridge is about to go the way of the dodo bird.

S&W catalogs only a single revolver for it - a 6-shot Jframe w/ a 3" barrel.

Ruger also has but one offering. Curiously, it's a full-size GP100, rather than an SP101.

Taurus offers nothing at all.

So what's the deal? Is this round DOA?

It was never very popular from day one when it first came out.

True..... But was it needed? You have the 357 and the 38spl. In between is the +p 38.

What purpose does the 327 serve?

It's purpose is to mimick the numbers of the .357 Magnum (supposedly. And I dunno if it does or not) yet in a smaller package, thus allowing six shots in a small frame wheel gun rather than five.

It also has versatility as a platform, being that there are five calibers which can be shot in it.

I bought a Taurus M327, and the .327 is neat little round, and that you can shoot .32 H&R and .32 S&W makes it at least something can be found for it...... I thought Ruger had a single action chambered in .327 FM?

Truth known very few specialty or wildcat calibers as they are called stand the test of time after their introduction. Most of the tile the owner of the weapon ends up loading for them due to availability and then short productions of commercially made ammunition for them and finally it doesn't pan out for profit and the companies stop loading for the round causing the owners once again to start loading for them and also to locate reloading materials if it is still available? The only wildcat caliber I have is the 6.5 Grendel and the 458 Socom. Bullets for both are easily acquired and I stocked up on casings in advance. With some work 6.5 Grendel Cases can be made from 7.62X39 brass if need be. Both are using quality hand made loads. Primers are standard primers.
