Keep looking until you can find a used Ruger in your price range.

Are you looking for something small in a double action? Target shooting with a single action?
Smith and wesson makes some small frame .22 DA's. Heritage makes a not so great in quality single action that's fairly accurate for target work.

In that price range(new)your double action revolvers are going to be the Taurus 94 and the Charter arms Pathfinder,I would not get the Taurus if it were me,Charter is better and made in the USA.

Rugers and Smith's are pretty much the best of the best when it comes to wheelies. I prefer Smith myself for aesthetic reasons.

Ruger SP101
Get one and never look back. Get one in .357, with three inch barrel. Great shooter, u can shoot .38spl and .357 in it, and it is a great carry gun too. The Ruger holds it value and it will last you a life time. Don't get me wrong, I love Smith and Wesson revolvers, but the Ruger is less money, their fit and finish is good, and it will not let you down. JMHO of course!!

i'm really partial to H&R's & New England Firearms' .22 revolvers, good quality & accurate.
you can get lookin on gunbroker & see that are are about as many different H&R models as there are barrel lengths for them, plus most hold 9 (9!!!) rounds. a local gun shop that usually is high on most all prices, has a used H&R 949 for $199 so they are well within your budget & can be had cheaper than that. the 949 is similar in appearance to a single six but is double action instead of single, so you can still live out some John Wayne scenes

Ruger has some options in single and DA revolvers. Their new .22 DA is one is in the SP101 line. May not be within your price range, but a nice shooter. Their single 10 is also a great shooter. I think you may have to bump up your price range. Better to wait and get a decent gun then try and fit the gun into a price. Been down those roads....you won't be happy in the long run.
As it relates to the SP101 series in .38/.357. Best gun I own and only one I have not traded or sold....its a workhorse. I take that puppy camping, hiking, as my carry weapon. Its the leatherman of guns.

I think you should consider a used Ruger Bearcat "SAA". Probably the best-brand-name used wheel gun find-able nearest your $300.00 limit.
Either that or get lottery-lucky to find a used $300.00 .22 S&W. And as mentioned, there might be a used CA or maybe a Taurus to be found. And the wild-card; the NAA mini-revolvers.
