Default1851 colt navy

Hi i was wondering if any one could help me i bought a box lot of items at an auction and in the bottom of the box there was a revolver cylinder with an engraving on it. so i thought i would research it and found it was to a 1851 colt navy i don't have any use for this and would like to sell this item and was hoping some one could tell me how much something like this would be worth i know a few gun dealers and would hate for them to try and rip me off. its in good shape a little rust but not much and the engraving is just about perfect.

Can you verify that its period correct and a Colt? Try searching on Gunbroker.com for "1851 Clynder" and you will get an idea for price

You could take a survey on some of the gun auction sites, like gunbroker: 1851 NAVY 44 CAL NEW CYLINDER BY NAVY ARMS : Black Powder / Muzzle loading at GunBroker.com
Navy Arms Pietta Colt 1851 revolver cylinder 44 : Small Parts at GunBroker.com

Good luck with it.

BTW, I think the original Colt NAVY was .36 cal, ARMY was .44 cal- so when you see a .44 NAVY, usually will mean reproduction.

The original Cold Navy was definitely .36 cal. Many reproductions are out there and some are excellent. Also, some are in .44 cal. Beware of reproductions. It would be rare to have a cylinder from an original Navy in which the engraving is "just about perfect." Hope yours is original. Good luck.

Here are a couple of photos of an 1851 Colt Navy. Unfortunately, it's an excellent reproduction rather than an original.
