Where do you shoot?

Where do you shoot? I know there's quite a few ranges in the Central Texas area, but which one do you go to?

Subbing, as I'll be in TX for a few months within the next couple months, so I'll be needing some ideas.

Lone Star range in Lockhart (really well north of Lockhart). Reds Pflugerville location if weather is nasty. I really need to join the Austin Rifle Club

I am a Member out in Lockhart, but I need other places. I'm in San Marcos and travel the state,so other places to stop and shoot would be great!

I'm stationed at FT Bliss (so I can attest). If you are ever in El Paso, you’ll need to check out the Fort Bliss Rod and Gun Club. It’s really nice – the best I have ever seen in the Army, actually – and it’s open to the public. In fact, I would say it rivals many of the finest private clubs.

But I’m not sure why it’s the “Rod” and Gun Club. I don’t know of any place nearby that you could drop a line unless you want to pull something out of the Rio Grande…

My hometown is Fort Worth, and I always shoot at Alpine when I am visiting family/friends. It’s out southeast of the city, but not too far. Not a bad little club/range.

POTTS SLOPE SHOOTING RANGE

http://www.roanokeoutside.com/get-outside/land/shooting-ranges

The Potts Slope Shooting Range is located on the right of SR 311, approximately 7 miles north of New Castle, Virginia. This range is handicap accessible with a covered shooting area. The range features nine lanes for rifle/pistol use with stationary targets at 25, 50 and 100 yards. (map it)

8 covered lanes - Potts Slope Shooting range
No bathrooms
Maximum distance - 100 yards (this has been increased to 200 yards)

or...

Since we live in the Jefferson National Forest - Right off my front porch like all the neighbors do.

Witt, as I understand the OP's intent, he was asking about where people shoot in Texas, not elsewhere...

Quail Creek Range, North of Texas Motor Speedway...about 25 minutes drive.
Hot/cold range with plenty of wardens.
$15 per visit.
7, 15, 25 pistol
25 and 50 rim fire
50 and 100 centerfire rifle

It's ok...
Too few ranges in the area means everyone goes here, this makes for a likelihood of a range nazi...

Was scolded the last trip for removing my 788, bolt and mag removed, from my soft case, and pointed down range, from the table just behind the bench...
"Um, Sir, next time please remove your rifle from the bench and then move your case to the table...
Fine. But I watched several pull complete rifles from hard cases, pointed toward the folks, and bring them to the bench!

It is a safe range from my experience and sees a lot of traffic. No FMJ, rifle...and gun and ammo inspection on arrival.
Folks in the shop are quite nice...

I shoot at the East Texas Rifle and Pistol club. It's about halfway between Longview and Kilgore, just off I-20. You must have a membership card to gain entrance at the gate, it has a card reader. Rifle ranges up to 300 yds, several handgun ranges, 2 of them with lights, and a shotgun range set up for sporting clays. 1 of the rifle ranges allow for full auto. Holster work, rapid fire, steel targets, steel in ammo, none of it is a problem, so long as you are following range rules. No tracers, no exploding targets, no shooting into the ground. Range safety officers on duty and checking memberships. It's a great place to shoot.

I shoot in my back pasture about 400 yd .
I don't trust other people at ranges.
