hunting area
Ok, I haven't been hunting in years, and I am trying to find out if there are any public lands that I could go hunting on? I am looking mainly east Texas and it is too much to go to a private property. Any ideas?

Texas has plenty of deer, just not much public land. The Davy Crockett National Forest is in Southeast Texas.

You might also check with the Game Wardens. Here is VA besides the National Forest land, parts of military bases are open for hunting, along with State Forests, portions of some of the State Parks, and we have several Wildlife Management Areas open for hunting and fishing.

Thank you gentlemen I heard you have to buy a special license for hunting in national/state forest. I didn't even realize that I could go to a base to hunt. Hood is just a couple hours from here and a couple state and national parks. Either one of you know how much land it has to be to hunt on public lands ie. certain acers or miles ect.

Hunting in National Park- BIG no-no.
Hunting in National Forest- yes for many. What is the difference? 2-4 years in a Federal prison. :D Many of the hunts on military reservations require you to complete a safety class, and will have limited areas, dates. Do some internet surfing. |

Contact or look on the Tx. Parks and Wildlife Dept. website. There is public land to hunt on,but depending on where it's at you may/may not need to purchase a special permit.
There are also different rules and regulations on many of the area's,so make sure you read and understand the laws in the place you may want to hunt in. |
