Texas gun laws are strict compared to other Western states. That is what happens when you have big urban centers. I travel and shoot matches in Texas you want to follow the state laws very close. But then Texas has the best cooks in the nation.

Compared to which states? Arizona, Utah, and Wyoming have us beat since they allow Constitutional carry (Wyoming and Utah require a permit for concealed though).
California is super antigun.
Washington has a few antigun laws.
Colorado and Oregon is slightly antigun.
New Mexico is alright, but they don't have castle doctrine laws or peaceful journey laws, and they only recognize carry permits from 6 other states.
Montana is about like Texas, except they do have open carry.
Nevada has open carry, but no peaceful journey laws.
Idaho doesn't have a peaceful journey law either.
Besides, Texas isn't a western state, it's a southern state.

Sorry you missed some laws. Wyoming does not require a permit to carry a concealed or open carry weapon. I should have said InterMtn West. Texas is much more strict than any of those states. Texas a heavly populated state so their laws are more strict. I don't think you travel that much. Texas laws are tricky depending on cities and counties. I think of Texas as western state maybe not? Kentucky and Tenn. are in the South and are much more gun friendly states.

that's right! open carry isn't legal in Texas, and CC requires a permit.
Texas does have the Castle Law and the death penalty. we Texans are not afraid to use either!

I believe you missed the part where I said Wyoming DID have us beat. I'm not one of those people who thinks my state is absolutely perfect. I know it's not, and I'm not afraid to point out where we need to improve. Frankly, if we had constitutional carry, our gun laws would be pretty much as good as they could be without federal laws being changed.
As for Kentucky and Tennessee, The only thing Kentucky has on us is they allow open carry (I can see us allowing open carry soon though), and while Tennessee does allow licensed open carry, they do not have a peaceful journey law.
Your going to have a hard time finding a Texas resident that will complain about Texas gun laws other than open carry.
