I have both. I figure I'm not a seasoned enough shooter to have formulated too many "informed" opinions about guns I haven't shot extensively. So I'm open to owning any quality gun that I can get for the right price...I've found that actually owning (and maintaining) is the best way to accurately form my own opinion.
I prefer the XD/XDm.
Here's what I like between the two:
XD/m- grip, natural pointability (really dislike Glock grip/sight picture)
XD/m- grip safety feature. My ideal no-brainer safety.
XD/m- better quality mags, IMO
XD/m- trigger. no contest.
Glock- reduced overall weight, without added recoil
Glock- low bore axis, a huge Glock attribute
Glock- more calibers (10mm), far greater conversion potential
Both shoot well for me, the Glock's grip angle just requires a seemingly awkward path to get there. As long as I focus on keeping the index finger running along the slide, things seem to fall into place.
I prefer XD slightly. But I also feel it's in most shooters' best interests to know their way around a Glock. You don't have to own one or even like them. Heck, you can reasonably hate them. But they're so common, that it's probably beneficial to at least know your way around one. The same applies to many common guns...Ruger/SW 357 revolvers, 1911s, Ruger 10/22, AR15, Moss500/Rem870.

Don't own either but have shot several Glocks and an XD in .45.
Personal preference is the XD, it just fits me better. But then I prefer my Sig P226 and 1911's, especially 1911's in .45.

I have as said previously several 1911s and had a Sig 226 phantom in 357 Sig. My ex has it but since I gave it to her for SD I let her keep it.

I don't own any glocks but have shot a few, one extensively a G19 back in the 1990's. The glocks functioned fine for me. My XD45 seems more comfortable to me.
I do want a glock 20c though.

I have a XD and Glock but neither will compare with my 5.7. The XD is to big and clumsy to CCW and is not accurate over 25 yards. The Glock would be my second pick. I carry my 5.7 CCW all the time. It holds 21 rnds and is lighter and easier to conceal. than a XD. The XD is not accurate over 25 yds. The 5.7 can hit a 12" target at 100 yds and more.
It's funny you don't see to many LEO's use XD's. Most use Glocks.
At the big shoots you don't see any XD's. Most are Colts and Kimbers and custom 1911's.
I see the XD's as an over priced Hi Point. They do sort of favor each other.

Never shot an XD, have shot many GLOCKs and M&Ps. I shoot great with GLOCK, but no better than I do with an M&P. I prefer the ergonomics of the Smith.
Just never had the chance to shoot an XD, and the only one I looked at to buy felt like it had a cramped trigger guard to me. I had trouble getting my finger to the trigger.

the Gloc is not a bad pistol by any means, but i have to go with the XD as it fits my hand much better than the Glock does. i feel the better a pistol fits your hand, the more accurate you will be.

I had my hands on a G26 and shot it,also the XDM9 Compact. I gotta say,the XDM9 felt beefier and more solid than the Glock. The body, texture, love the trigger and the recoil is awesome. Little heavier than the G26 but just felt in love with the XDM9.

Of the two options given, I would pick the Glock.
Never have liked the XD - it's a $200 Croatian pistol that Springfield just stuck their name (and a higher price tag) on.
Kind of like putting lipstick on a pig...
