Police departments seldom if ever base issue pistol choice off of effectiveness or any realistic criterea other than how much it costs and what the chief or mayor reads in their union news letter.
If it WAS based off research into what works best police across the nation would be armed with 357magnum handguns and have ar15 and 12ga shotguns in every squad car...
There are a lot more things going on than how effective a handgun cartridge is or what its recoil is. Mostly cost factors.
For example if a certain vendor is trying to getmarket share they will often pick a huge pd and regardless of how good or bad their product is they sell it way below what it costs to make.
Do that a few times and all of a sudden a third rate handgun (cough glock cough) is being talked about and purchased by everyone thinking they are great cuz police are using it. When in reality the only reason its being used is because the company practically gave them away.
The last thing you should ever do is base your personal gun selection off of what a chief of police or mayor or other elected politician chooses....

The problem with being stupid is you cannot simply decide to stop doing dumb things...
