Would the 9 mm be my first choice? No.
However, if it was all I had, I think I would be ok with it, as long as I can get to pick the ammo.
Key issues:
Shot placement. If you don't hit the critical bits, caliber is irrelevant.
Ammo choice. If you're not subject to the Hague Convention, spring for good SD ammo that has proven to be reliable in your gun.
There is no shortage of people who have reached ambient temperature because of the 9 mm. Interestingly, 9 mm ammo equals or betters .38 special performance-wise. Yet .38 special seldom catches as much crap.
Worry less, shoot more.

i carry a 9mm because of capacity i live in cali so im limited to eleven rounds if i could i would carry more, one thing i have learned working with alot of vets is they say after being in a fire fight you want more bullets not less this is the main reason i carry a 9mm.i nothere are ten round 45s but they aretypically a larger frame gun.

this topic has been around the world a thousand times and hasnt lost any momentum. heres my thoughts.
Placement and good ammo. there is no one shot do it all caliber. thats why we have so many. thus, the shooter should be comfortable and carry whichever caliber he/she can handle. if you can place 10 9mm rounds in the body cavity in under 2 seconds. and only 5 .45acp rounds i say carry the 9.. however if your skilled and can do it with a 45. carry a 45. or a .380,.40,.357 just make sure whatever you carry. that you can place rounds ON TARGET as fast as possible.

I don't recall partaking in any fantasy crap conversations, but if you do a simple thread search you'll see this arguement has been brought up quite a bit recently with many of the same people making the same arguements, hence......
