The hk I was looking at was only 530 but I'm going to end up going with fn. I went in today to buy the usp and it was gone

I just picked up a Sig 226 in 40 for 505 plus 35 shipping on gunbroker. You can't beat that. Be patient and you can get some great deals. When everyone was afraid of the gun ban they flooded the market now it appears they are coming back down

Don't eat that pizza as often. Smoke one less pack of cigarettes a week. Don't go to the movie theater every weekend. Eat less fast food. Things like that add up quickly.
And, don't forget the reduced doctor's visits! And, for the fast food, less stomach medicine.

Might I suggest a Beretta 92/92A1/M9? Very nice gun in OP's price range, and hi cap, too. But it's in 9mm. If you like, the same gun comes in .40, (96/96A1). The 9mm 30 rd mags can be re-fitted to take 20 rounds of 40.

Not exactly a "budget" gun by my Sig 226 .40 has been a flawless performer for roughly 7 years now.

I've owned just about every action type out there over the years and this Sig is the ONLY one that's NEVER malfunctioned.

Which is why its trusted as my "bedside" gun.

Tack

My 229 .40 has been flawless since I got it. It's not really in the budget category, though.

Springfield XDs, Glocks, M&Ps, and even CZs are all great guns that aren't too expensive.
