we could make this faster....

what isn't a good 9mm.

llama comes to mind.

you will find glock, sig, s&w, beretta, springfield, heckler and koch, and a few dozen others make a fine 9mm pistol.

what are you going to use it for? how much can you afford to spend on the firearm?

i personally will take my m&p over a glock. that's my choice, i'd take and h&k over a sig, and a beretta over a taurus.

herein lies the issue.

start with firing a few different makes (usually, an indoor range rents guns) and take it from there.

What feels good in your hands and how much do you want to spend? Are you looking to CC this gun? If so, size will come into play.

Take your time handling any firearms you consider buying and go with what you like in your hand.

I personally love my M&P Shield for CC and my M&P VTAC 9mm for HD. I love the way they feel in my hand and am partial to products made in 'Merica.

To each there own. All mentioned are high quality.
I love the M&P series, and Sig P226, P229 are all good options

Doesn't get any better than the g19 for range, reliability, & carry. Cheap, easily accessible stock and upgrade parts.

and what if the G19 doesn't fit a persons hand well? i can shoot many Glocks quite well, but have found many other pistols that fit my hand much better that i can shoot even better than the Glock. usually the pistol that fits your hand better is the one you can shoot much more accurately.

the best advice on which 9mm pistol to choose is the one that fits you well. try out several, rent them if possible. set a budget and try out as many as possible within your budget.

many reccommend a particular model or make of pistol. IMO, wrong recommendation. are you assuming the OP has the same size hands as you and has the same feel for the grips? the same dexertity of grip? long or short fingers? too many variables to be able to recommend a particular make or model of pistol.

I bought myself a Springfield XD9. 4" and I love it. The grip angle is so natural and fits well with med/small hands. Took it to the range today and confirmed it was the right choice. I've fired 1911s and Baretta 9s in the Army and the XD feels so natural.

It's not the XDM so it came in at 517.47 including taxes and fees. Ordered it from galleryofguns.com and was the easiest process.

Forgot to mention: This one had the extra gear (magazine holder, holster and magazine loader) so it was about $50 more than the standard kit but it was the only one in stock at the moment

Since you have not replied what you want it for you couldn't be too serious.Never the less no one has mentioned Magnum Research Baby Eagle, large steel frame,4.5".
I did a lot of renting:Sig226,Baretta 92fs,CZ95b, SA xdm, and even H&K.I liked the BDE the most. Little heavy for CC.but great for target under $600, I paid around 500 last February on the Gun Genie. Actually I have a BHP that is the cat's meow but that wouldn't be in your range.
