I'm still waiting on the Sig Max, its a 1911 in a .40 cal. Its a competition gun out the box. But Sig is a lil slow to release this.

I'd cast my vote for a Sig P226 or P229.

I recently came across a used 229 at GTs in my hometown and it was spotless with a excellent price. I went to work and opened my big mouth about it and my buddy went and bought it a day before I could go back and get it. He was nice enough to let me shoot it at the range and holy crap it's a smooth weapon. OP, you really need to consider one of these too.
