If your goal is primarily to save money I think you really need to consider the length of time to have a positive return on investment. If it costs you $300 in equipment then how many rounds do you have to go through before any cost savings is realized?

Yessir thats the goal.
By my estimates, right now I visit the range 1-2 times a month and average 4 boxes of ammo each trip. So, on average I'm spending $90-120/mo on ammunition. It wouldnt take long at all to break even

Have you considered buying cheaper ammo?

I do use cheap ammo....I only shoot 9mm and 45acp so I'm either looking at $17/box or $22/box of cheap ball FMJ ammo. Usually Lawman, Estate, or PMC Bronze. I shoot both calibers evenly for the most part so on average I'm spending $20/box of 50 rounds.

So at the very LEAST I'm spending $80/mo just on ammo

Why not bring it down to 100 rounds a trip and one trip a month?

Seems fair to me....$40 + range fee is about $50/mo. I might even try to cut THAT down a bit. Its all good, I need to exercise some discipline & not hit the range so much these days. Im comfy with my shot placement.....

I've been running through a lot of guns in the past couple years. I can't really make the case for more guns. I bought a Ruger LC9 before Thanksgiving but I already stock 9mm and I wanted a compact. Down to really just a couple guns that I want with a big bore revolver currently at the top of the list.

Been trying to buy ammo but of the 4-5 Wal-Marts I can hit on a regular basis, none of them have had the Federal 9mm or .45ACP 100 round packs in stock. I was getting these for $19.97 and $29.97 regularly. One of the workers I talked to said the distribution centers don't have any in stock so there is nothing to send. I might have to see about buying in case quantity.

I have about 2000 .45ACP and 1000 9mm once fired cases in stock. I've been looking at some single stage presses to get started reloading. The up front cost will be around $400 with two die sets. Since I have brass saved, I could get down to $.11-.12 per round of .45 and cheaper for the 9mm. Atleast that is what the guys I occasionally shoot bullseye with are reloading for.

You can get a lee hand press for like $30. You aren't going to be able to load huge volumes at one time but the do work. I used one for about 2 years with very good results.

I keep a short list and buy when I have the spare money. I don't use my savings & don't have credit cards so it's easy for me. I always round up when going thru my weekly allowance and I'm very strict on it so extra comes often.

Besides I'm single, childless and debt free. Truly live the perfect life and indulge in many collections and hobbies monthly. I plan on making no changes to it ever, not a fan of children, not an animal person and really only like the company of myself and a very small select group of friends and they know I'm not like the rest so they don't expect anything of me. Money has never been an issue for me. Spend when I have modestly so I always have something. It's really not that hard.
