I am looking to purchase a Taurus Model 92 AFS 9mm---with serial #TNB 48660 D---S/S with rosewood grips in about 80% comd.
does anyone have an idea how old this gun would be and what it may be worth

taurus pistols are iffy some runs of em are outstanding some terrible and the whole range in between. taurus is a pure crapshoot when it comes to quality.

I have a Tarus like the one you're describing. It's accurate, and I've yet to have a missfeed or misfire. It's easy to disassemble and clean. I love it.

Ive never heard of a genuine problem with their PT92s. My stainless one has been flawless so far. By genuine, I mean an actual mechanical defect. I'm not talking about a malfunction that is blamed on the gun because of the brand, while the same malfunction would be blamed on the shooter or the ammo if the gun were a Kimber or something. Realistically, you will not likely find any difference in accuracy or reliability between it and the Berettas.


Though unless you are really on a tight budget or are getting a really great deal on it, I wouldn't bother getting such an old, used model. At large franchises you can get a new blued one for $379 (Academy), so you could probably go to a smaller shop and get one even cheaper.

A little research will show that when it comes to Taurus - older is generally better. I'm not a Taurii fan but I've owned 2 PT92s and I actually like them better than the Beretta's because of the frame mounted safety...

I have owned numerous Taurus guns.

In order- PT92 AFS, PT 100, 24/7 full size 9, 24/7 compact 9, and a 66 in 357.

Only manufacturers defect was in the 24/7 fullsize. 6 shots out of 17 on paper @ 15 yards.

Sent it in, and they sent it back claiming they installed a new barrel. Gun shoots gnats ass since.

Per the PT92. I bought mine in 99, have run 18,000+ since then. Super accurate, bulky carry. Love it. Gave it to my wife, instead of an engagement ring(trigger guard is like a ring right......)

I don't think the PT92s have gotten any worse over the years, and unless there is something special about that one or it is a hell of a deal, I'd personally rather spend a little extra to get something that's not 16 years old and in 80% condition (that number is subjective, but 80% doesn't sound too good to me unless he is just talking about the finish).

My PT92 is my only pistol and I carry it everywhere except work, because I wear dress clothes. I carry IWB at ~12:30 (muzzle just to the right of my junk) with the grip facing to the right.
