Default Star Megastar .45acp

Just picked it up Yesterday...
it had been languishing in a local pawn shop...
just looked so lonely that I had to do something about it!

Of course, that meant a wee bit of hagglin...
helps to know it had been sitting for over a year...

Note the oddball front sight...
yes, they made 'em sticking out like that on purpose...
gathers light nicely, but also catches on anything it comes
into contact with due to the square shape...
might end up taking a file to it to round the edges off or something...

Last shot is an M243 Firestar for comparison.
Doesn't really do the Mass of the double-stack Megastar real justice tho...
as the Megastar is a HUNK of metal similar to the DEagle!

Now I just have to figure out what mag they based it off of,
as Star was famous for using S&W mags as their base...
all one usually has to do is add a mag catch hole once
one figures out what the match is (like S&W CS45 = Star M45)
so I'll be searching the mag bins at the next few shows,
and checking them against the Original to figure it out...
A Micrometer can be your best friend

The OEM mag is a 12-rd double-stack.
It'll be a matter of trial and error to figure out
the optional replacement...
Unless someone else has already done it and posts up

Note that every last one of those 12-round mags are sold out

And I consider less-than total capacity mags to be pathetic...

Plus I kinda wanna find out if one of the Big Double Stackers
with say, 30-rounds or so of capacity will work

Default Safety/Decocker

Also found out that the Safety, once you place it on safe,
simply continue to turn it away from the Fire position,
and it decocks your pistol, just like the Ultrastar line!!

Neat little things you learn when fiddling around with new guns

Finally got it to the range...it's a KEEPER

Started at 5m to test, it quickly ate the center of the target.
Less perceived recoil than any 45 I've ever run across,
which is partially due to weight, and partially due to design.
let the RO give it a whirl, he fired 4 shots touching,
like a card club...center, then left, right, top.

Now he's looking for one

I have a couple of the Star's, the Firestar .40 and the Model 30m 9mm, both are excellent firearms and very reliable. The .40 is a compact and the recoil is very manageable because of the weight. They are a solid built gun.

I had a 30P for a few years in the 90's...sold it during hard times...
still have two mags, will end up with one again someday

Had a lead on one locally, with a bad cold blue job,
but someone actually paid $200 for it while I was waiting
for it to price-drop, as few know what they are,
or how well they work...
and that cold blue job was atrocious...literally ONE coat...
lightly applied, made it look Electric Blue...with scratches

I'd have parkerized it, or maybe gone nuts & cerakote'd it...

I'd give it a few gun shows, once I figure out what the parent mag is...
Star had a bad habit of using S&W mags instead of making their own.
Which makes things a LOT easier after you figure out which one you need.

However, S&W didn't make a double stack .45acp during that time,
that I know of...so...it'll be comparison time by digging thru
tons of boxes of .45acp double-stack mags, until finding the right match...
currently leaning towards Para 14-45 mags...just from the look.

And I still have to figure out the Ultrastar 8rd single stack .40S&W
as well, so it's just a big party
