Springfield armory xd40 vs s&w m&p .45

As everyone knows I just purchased a Walther P99QA 9mm and now I want a larger caliber pistol. Out of the Springfield armory xd40 and the S&W M&P .45, which would be the better purchase? The armory I can get it for $449 and the m&p for $469

There's very little difference in quality, performance, or function. It's like comparing 7-UP to Sprite. Buy whatever suits your tastes.

Personally, I'd drift away from the plastic stuff. And that's only due to my own preferences.

I have an XD40SC, it's a good quality pistol. I don't have an M&P, but they are pretty nice. For a range/general use pistol, of the two you specifically list, I'd probably go w/ the .45 M&P. Simply because I find .45 acp guns more enjoyable to shoot.
.40s just aren't fun to me.
If I was standing next to you at the gun shop counter, I'd try to talk you into checking out the budget price 1911s.

Just curious, why two different calibers in two different models? It's like asking the difference in a v6 in a car or a v8 in a truck.

As others have said, both are great pistols and you really can't go wrong with either. If possible, go to a gun shop and hold both. Even better, if they rent guns, rent both and give them a go, see which one you like better.

When it comes down to two quality guns, the only one who should sway your opinion one way or the other is you. It's not our gun, we won't be shooting it, so who cares what we think?

I didn't know that.....???

Which can you shoot and conceal the best? Which feels better to you? How much do you have to spend?

Both are great guns. I see no bad choice here.

I'm issued an m&p for work and love it. In my opinion the xd seems a little more bulky.

I have shot both. I final bought the m&p. I think it is more comfortable, reliable, smoother, etc. I just think the m&p is a better gun.

I would def choose the m&p really great guns. I dont particularly care for xd pistols that much, they feel cheap and hage so-so fitvand finish compared to other polymers such as m&p and glock.

+1 on the M&P

ill take the xdm 45 over glock or m&p. xdm fit finish and feel much better than glock or m&p. xdm is better balanced too
