Well I bought a Smith and Wesson Sigma SW40V today at Academy Sport & Outdoor.

I took it straight to the range (I didn't even clean it ops: - shame on me)

Well it shot well, my only complaint is a very hard trigger pull.

Absolutely not one problem - I only had 50 shells with me (bought with the gun).

First .40 I've owned, does anyone know the difference between a .45 & a .40?

The size, speed, and punching power of the bullet.

The .40 is a good defensive round, but the .45 is slower, bigger, and transmits more energy to the target on impact.

The old Sigmas had a well deserved reputation as a garbage pistol.....they were.

The current models are fine for defensive use. Its no match gun but it was never meant to be. I owned one a few years ago. I bought it from a co worker in need of money for $200. I too hated the trigger. But fear not for there is a fix for that which can improve trigger pull by leaps and bounds.

There was a thread over on the Smith&Wesson forum with step by step instructions on how to "fluff and buff" the trigger assembly. I can't find it right now but look around its out there. You can also add Wold striker springs to greatly improve the trigger.

Mine ran like a sewing machine. Not surprising seeing as how its a copy of a Glock. So much so that Glock filed suit against S&W and won. Spare mags are pricey however. All in all its a decent choice for a SD gun on a budget. Its no HK, Glock or Sig but its lightyears ahead of say a Highpoint.

i just came across the same firearm and myself thought the trigger pull in this pistol was a little high.i found when i disassembled the pistol,in the sear housing block assembly there is a coil type spring located at the bottom of the housing with a pin through it.i took the spring out and it feels like it has a 8lb trigger instead of the 12 or so lb. of course if ya want to smooth things up a lil more you could always stone,sand,polish,buff,ect. the striker assembly also.

I Have the Sigma in .357sig and I have no problems with the trigger feels fine to me. One of my favorite Pistols, feels much better than the Glock.
