Depending on what you mean by small, something to carry everyday I would look hard into rug LCP but also Kahr makes decent firearms for good prices.

My EDC is a KelTec PF9. My "woods carry", hunting sidearm is either a HiPoint JCP .40s&w with my hand loads, or a .357 with a 6" barrel. Either way not concerned about hiding a gun while in the woods.

What type of game does .40 SW take down?

The kind shooting at you drunkingly mistaking your orange jumper for a deer hide. Poachers. Coyotes. Stumps that look at ya the wrong way.

Since I use my KelTec and practice with it I can say that anything beyond 10 yards it sucks. I've shot it out to 25 yards and can hold "minute of man" groups, I kinda suck though. He HiPoint I can hold 3-5" groups even when my arthritis is bad.

HiPoints are inexpensive, accurate, reliable. I had some mag issues which were quickly corrected at no cost. 2000 rounds later I bought the .45 acp version.

I bought it for woods carry, .40s&w will take down about anything except bear.
