Sig P220 series pistols

I'm going to try to pick up a FiveseveN online, but want to get another cheaper 9mm or .40 S&W handgun that I can shoot more often and use as a carry weapon. I was looking at some Sig P22X pistols for a carry weapon. They all seem to look almost exactly the same to me, but there are huge price differences between them. What's the difference between the P225's, P220's, P229's, and P226's? What makes P226's cost twice as much?

Thanks,
Crispy

Just one note here. The SIG P220's only come in 45acp anymore.

Yeah I just listed off a few that I've seen browsing, wasn't sure if they had a 9mm/.40 S&W version out there.

Come check out the FN Forum at www.fnforum.com if U want more info on the Five Seven. U better buy one now if you can even find one with all the sales going.

Crispy, got to the SIG website, they lay out all the models and what they bring. FWIW the 9mm version that is similar to the "220" is the 225, single stack 9mm. Can still get inexpensive german police turn ins (P6) for under 300 if thats what you want.

P220 is single-stack .45 ACP. Slide diminsions are the same as P226.

P225 is single-stack, (sorta) compact 9mm.

P226 is a full-size 9mm, .40, .357SIG with double-stack hi-capacity magazine. This is the flagship pistol, and considered by many to be one of the best military/law enforcement sidearms of all time.

P228 & P229 are newer, slightly more compact handguns. Hi-capacity magazine.

P232 is a compact .380ACP styled much like the Walther PPK.

P239 is compact, single-stack. Improvement over P225 as compact pistol.

There are so many variants now of the P226, so I'm not sure which one you're looking at that is priced twice as much as the others. As used guns the availability and popularity will have an impact on price.

Older Sigs (P-220 - 228) had sheet metal 3 piece slides and alloy frames. The 229 was the first (non-.380) with a milled one piece slide. Other models were changed/updated to the newer type slide. Not a dang thing wrong with the older design, it worked.
IMHO the P-220 and P-226 were the best guns they ever put out.

Browning BDA .45 same as a P-220. Made by Sig for Browning.
