Sig .45 question

I'm from new York but in Arizona for vacation. In NY its very very hard to be able to touch a pistol. Over here they practically give you one once you get off the plane. Since I love shooting I took a trip over to shooters world in phoenix(exelent place with an incredible staff) I shot a verity of glocks, s&ws and sigs. By far my favorite was the .45 Cal sig that looked just like the P226 but just a tad shorter. In all my excitement first the gun I completely forgot the model #. Can someone tell me what the model # is and any comments as far as how much its liked or disliked. I know sigs are very renowned guns but are they're any glocks that com pair?

Sounds like you shot a P220. Similar to the P226, but an 8rd single stack 45acp.

Great gun. One of my favorites for sure.

P-220 probably the best pistol Sig ever made.

Jeff9000cd,
Comparing a Glock to a Sig is like comparing a Volkswagen to a Porshe, they will both get the job done, however, the Glock is a striker fired pistol, with a polymer frame, while the Classic Series Sigs such as the P220 have a lightweight metal frame and an external hammer. They are both very reliable and depending on what they are to be used for very high quality.

Viper,
That is almost exactly what the guy at the gun shop said(except he used ford and Porsche). I love the way the metal feels and recoils. And since in NY I can't get a permit to carry I have to just get a good home defense gun and a gun I like to shoot at the range. I was just hoping there would be some kind of glock that would be comparable.

And after looking at the p220 it looks to be the one I shot. Thank you!

This version is pretty high on my to-get list right now:

Well, if you want a Glock in .45 Auto, then the models you want to look at would be the G21 which is the full size model, the G30 which is their Mid Size and the glock 36 which is a small single stack. If I were going to own one for personal defense and home protection and never carry it, I would probably go with the G21 with night sights and get a tactical light or light/laser combo to put on the equipment rail. Before you go back to NY, I might also suggest you try shooting the Smith M&P 45 and also, if you really want a Sig and can live with a 9mm or .40 S&W you could check out the Sig SP2022 it has a polymer frame, but is comparable in size to the P229. I have the Smith M&P in 40 and the SP2022 in 9mm and really like them both.

Sig P220 could be the best firearm ever made in my opinion. The only downfall I see on it is capacity, which is the only reason I don't carry it on duty. A tank of a gun that I don't think you can begin to hurt. Put some molded rubber grips such as Hogue on there and it feels amazing.
