I've had 2 including a loaded champion. Both had feeding issues due to magazine problems. Both triggers were heavy from the factory. One was ~7 one was ~8 pounds. Both problems were easy to fix but required additional money. Overall they are fine guns. Unless I got an awesome deal I would go with other similarly priced companies such as colt. Just my experience

I bought mine used. Fantastic trigger and shoots very reliably and accurately. I run a lot of 185gr SWC through mine and it has no problems.

Exactly what about it is giving you second thoughts?

Springfield builds a nice 1911. I have a Trophy Match and it's been excellent.
My only criticism was the trigger, which I thought was rather heavy for a match pistol (though not horrible). One $45 trigger job later and I have nothing to find fault with. It has been jokingly said that the SA Legal Department does their triggers
Springfield Armory is kind of the General Motors of the 1911 world (I mean that in a positive way.) By that I mean they have something for nearly everyone at the majority of price points. From the fairly basic MilSpec (last I looked, the GI was no longer being produced.) to Custom Shop creations (their Custom Shop is real, unlike a certain other popular brand) customized to suit. Great customer service and a lifetime warranty as well. Are there any number of other choices? Oh yeah. (I have a couple of Dan Wessons, a Colt and a Wilson Combat) Heck, Sigs, Colts, even Ruger now, & probably dozens of others that I can't think of...many good pistols from many makers. That said, I doubt you will ever be disappointed with a Springfield set up to your tastes.

what did they tell you in school when taking multiple guess tests?? NEVER second guess your first answer...normally its the right choice.

Or as my dad always said when we were playing cards, "think long, think wrong"

What i am saying is the SA 1911 is awesome...buy it, drop in a wilson combat trigger group and you will have a world class 1911. (at least thats what I did ohhhh so many moons ago and have yet to regret it)

My beat up old SA has out shot more than one kimber (MUCH to the chagrin of the bragart owners of the kimbers )

By reading your OP I'm thinking you have little to no 0 experience. Being you don't know thew pros and cons of "this type of gun" . If the 100 + years of dependable service can not sway you then I don't think some stories form us will do much.

There's pretty much two types of gun people. The ones that have 1911 loves and those that don't. Sure the don'ts will say they like a 1911 and might even own one but they will usually go for another pistol for their main use. Or they are nice but there are modern guns that can do it as well or better.
Then there are the 1911 faithful. These types will tout the 1911 as the perfect platform. Sure they might own other guns but their 1911 is their daily driver.

The 1911 is a fantastic pistol. But not for the faint of heart. Most the 1911 fans out there have more than a basic knowledge of the platform and how it works. They don't fear taking it down to parts and pieces and looking for ways to make it better and more their own. But at the end of the day 1911 people are well rewarded with a reliable pistol that has accuracy not seen in many other platforms.

The question is...Are you up to it?

Springer makes some of the best 1911's out there in my opinion anyway. If a 1911 if what you want then you will do well in getting one.

I have a slightly used Springfield 1911 Champion Loaded 4" model in stainless---I bought it in the box with all the usual stuff---the trigger is not bad at all---functions 100% with any 230 FMJ/JHP grain ammo I have (I don't have any 185s)---shoots right to point of aim---seems well-built and solid---no real issues here...
