Hello all, I own a Model 539 blued steel 9mm .
I have had it now for about 6 months. It was a really clean gun when I bought it. (The reason I bought it! ) It shoots great , and has only hiccuped once , that was with an aftermarket mag. What I am wanting to know is, are these older smiths getting harder to find? I first thought it was a High power when I first saw it! It's a sweet looking gun. Does anyone else here own one? If so what do you think about it? |
Since S&W brought out the M&P line I saw a bunch of these S&W. autos hit the market and good prices. I think they are a great bargain. They will dry up and the prices will climb.

The second generation Smith autos (three digit model numbers) are not particularly special. They made a milion of them and were forced by their holding company (Tompkins) to revise them because of their shortcomings. They were certainly better than the 39/59 but not up to the standards of the market. Most have been relegated to back of the shelf status in gun safes as there are MUCH better guns available today.
They work. They are accurate. Most people do not consider them particularly "pretty". Not much chance of there ever being a collector following. Shoot it. Enjoy it. |
Thanks for the great info!!
I will shoot it and enjoy!! |
