Default Ruger sr9 any good?

My dad and I went to a cabela's a few weeks ago and he was checking out the sr9. He said it felt great,it was light, good looking etc. and he really want's one. He also likes the fact that it can hold 18 round's(17 in the mag 1 in the chamber) I actually liked the gun too I also thought it was light and felt great. That being said are these ruger sr9's any good? He has not shot one yet and I was just wondering if they're worth the money? I think it was 500$ at cabelas maybe less.

A lot of happy owners out there that I'm sure will chime in.

Rugers in general are good guns - maybe a trip to a range to rent one may be in order?

When they were first produced they were geared towards LEO's so that has to speak for their reliability. I really like 'em.
