The single-most important aspect of any weapon is safety, and Springfield beats Glock there. I do have some rust on my XD9, but I'm a landscaper in Virginia Beach and I carry it IWB every day.
Yes, I wash the holster every night. From a subjective standpoint, I prefer single-actions, like the way the grip fits the curve of my hand, love the ambidextrous mag release, and can break down 2.75 XD's before most people can break down a Glock.

I could not believe that he actually said that he was hitting it as hard as he could, amazing.Apparently he did not bother to get to know the weapon before hand.

That is OFFICIALLY the dumbest XD owner I have ever encountered.

If ANYONE, EVER, advocates "banging your weapon" on any hard surface to fix a problem:

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE REST OF THE SENTENCE!

DO NOT STAY IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA!

DO NOT OBEY THE SPEED LIMIT GETTING OUT OF RANGE!

That guy is a toolshed from the word go. The mere fact that he posted that on the interwebz just gives everyone with an XD a black eye...

*junk punch* And you know why!

You should read the post and comments on that vid. It's crazy this braindead yahoo has people agreeing with him (not many) but enough to really scare you
and apparently the problem initially comes from improper reassembly of the pistol

will probably be getting my XD
when I get back off the boat

I suggest you go for the one that feels most comfortable to you. You will find people here that don't like the Glock and you will find people that don't like the XD. Both firearms have good track records, you might hear about problems but they are very very popular guns so of course there are going to be problems. If either one had serious issues with reliability, longevity, etc they would lose market share and go out of business. Neither has so that should tell you something.

HA! I was about to mention that I'm surprised no one suggested you check out a 1911, but then I reread the thread. The 1911 is a great choice too but I place it in a different class than an XD or Glock. I don't mean its better or worse just not as easy to compare apples to apples as an XD to Glock.

I have a Glock 36 and am very happy with it. You get 4 more rounds with the staggered G30, but I liked the smaller size and weight of the 36.

The XD Compact won out
I've put my downpayment to hold it till I get off the boat in three weeks

got the
XD compact 45 acp
4" barrel
Stainless Slide
comes with 10+1 mag for compact grip
and a 13+1 mag with extension to get the grip length to that of the
service model also with the 4" barrel

opted against the optional ambidexterious thumb saftey
cause this is going to get the crimson trace laser grip and that will not work on that model

sides I feel confident the 1911 style grip saftey along with the glock style trigger lockin mech is quiet sufficent

also put my order in for a Milt Sparks VersaMax II IWB holster
as far as I'm concerened these are the Rolls Royce of IWB
and definetly worth the price n wait
